I’ve just been swamped with work so I missed Monday’s comic… Yeah I know, too busy to even draw this crap, right? Well we’ve got baby birds in a robin’s nest on our porch. It’s insanely cute.

If thou dost not notice, I’ve been bringing back the mushroom gnomes, because for some reason I’ve been thinking about magical gnome treasure a lot lately. More gnome treasure to come, stay tuned…

This started out as a design for a tattoo and ended up as a hip-hop duo. After thinking about it and looking up “Stone Cold Killaz”, I actually found out that (of course) this name has already been taken (warning: really offensive lyrics). I’m not worried though; I may get a Cease And Desist letter from their lawyer, so I’ll wait before I get it tattoo’ed onto my back.

I hate that song. Heard it on Saint Patricks Day out celebrating… Anyway, this combined with reading old copies of Savage Sword of Conan… This is what happens when you combine John Buscema with crappy 90s club music.

Drew this after watching some silly teenage vampire show about moody and morally-conflicted (but still very fashionable) twentysomething vampires and werewolves.

I once met a trucker who had a pet chipmunk. It was tame and he brought it with him wherever he went. I think of that chipmunk every time I try and pass a big rig.

Yes, I’ve been drawing a lot of beer cartoons lately… mostly because of some commercial work.

I think any dog owner can sympathise with this.

I was inspired after a friend of mine, also involved in education, explained his frustration at a game that students were playing where they yelled ‘penis’ as loud they could in a dorm late at night… A few days later I asked a bartender I knew about this game and if he had ever played it: “Sure–yeah played that game all the time in high school, we just called it ‘Penis’…”

Seriously, I’m starting to get tired of hearing “at least I’ve got a job”. If you’ve got a job today, chances are you’ve got to work even harder due to the economy and the fact that your employer is cheap and can take advantage a situation where everyone’s out of work and the employees are terrified of losing their jobs.

We all know some Three Name People; show them this comic if you care about them.

This comic is funniest if you say it with a tough-guy Brooklyn accent.

I thought of this one after finding a copy of one of my old Hardy Boys books at my Mom’s house this past week. Looking at the covers to the books, I always thought that the Hardy Boys’ clean cut prep school looks were suspect…

People who know me probably have heard me say this. Some times a lot–sometimes to the point that it has gotten annoying.

I’m thinking of drawing a whole line of Hallmark greeting cards for people you don’t really like… All of them featuring this guy Buzz grabbing at his crotch and saying something offensive… Send in your suggestions and I’ll draw them!

How many times have you heard this spoken? Was it in your own home? Was it in the community area of your ‘temporary residence’ at the mental health clinic? Was it spoken in anger, or was it spoken as an ephemeral moment of spontaneous poetry? Who’s got the goddamn clicker? The answer is yes.

I actually said this in a drawing class; one of my students wouldn’t stop talking about Buddhism and yoga that day. It wasn’t that she was talking–it was that she wouldn’t draw while she was talking…

That’s my dog Wucius. Every day it’s the same thing as he sniffs everything and pees on everything on our block.

Hatchets are a recurring theme in my comics.

Who was the Minotaur, but some poor deformed kid they stuck in a basement? It was always hard for me to justify Theseus whacking the Minotaur, so I root for the underdog.

Let’s be honest; there have been some REDUNKULOUS attempts at redoing Greek mythology in film recently. Clash of the Titans sucked. The original 1981 Ray Harryhausen film blew my face off when I was a kid but the 2010 rehash was just awful, and in shitty 3D too! …and what was that one that just came out? Immortals? It’s reviews sucked so hard that I don’t even want to see it for free. A few years back, that movie 300 was okay so it kinda didn’t suck… Maybe because it was originally hashed out as a graphic novel by Frank Miller, but  I think that 300 was all the steam that the film industry needed to pick up the baton they dropped since making Troy. I’m certain I’m omitting some cinematic embarrassments in-between and I’m certain there will be more failures to come…

Anyway, despite the hype, I’ve always loved greek mythology but I’m convinced that it’s origins are not in the grandiose visuals with hot oiled six-packed abs but more likely everyday people seeking refuge from boredom by stretching the truth a little.

This is a redraw of a comic that Chris Olson found at work. I drew it years ago during a meeting where somebody said “let’s take this offline” and I thought, ‘Oh no you didn’t just say that!’ I immediately started scribbling out this drawing. I gave it to someone and forgot about it. Maybe 8 or 9 years later, a co-worker found it in a drawer and pinned it up and posted it on Facebook. I was honored.

The idea here is pretty simple: when you say something that stupid, a flying dog is inevitably going to drag you away to the Island of Broken Digital Gadgets and bash your brains out with a hatchet.

Utica is rich with personality. I see this dude at least once a week on my walk to work. Sometimes he yells at me driving by in his smoking junky Buick. I decided I had to make him into a character. I call him “Buzz” because he’s the antithesis of the buzzword, the language of corporate america.

I drew this during a documentary on birds narrated by Sir David Attenborough. His soothing voice has the ability to put Laticia to sleep within minutes. I stayed awake and drew birds.

I’ve always admired the word ‘pith’. My father’s pith helmet is one of my prized possessions.

I’ve always liked Gahan Wilson, whether it was his naughty drawings in Playboy magazine or his illustrations for Matthew Looney children’s book series, I’ve always loved his twisted sense of humor combined with his unique line quality. I thought this doodle particularly looked like his drawing style.

Gen X parents are the worst! It’s easy to say, as I’ve got no kids, but it’s always funny when you see a red-faced screamer in Price Chopper being satiated by Ding-Dongs.
